I went shopping with my mother Saturday, because let’s face it, who doesn’t need a good gay’s opinion on clothes? That, and I love picking out things for other people, with other people’s money!
It quickly came to my attention that someone has told the fashion industry it is cute to put a ribbon or tie around the mid-section of all the shirts and tops in the women’s department. For the record, this not cute… in fact it is very wrong. Who on earth would want their abdomen circled off like the equator! I sure as hell don’t!
We went through several racks, all having either a sewn in belt, sash, or ribbon of some sort going across the middle of the top. Its one thing to wear something around your waist or a scarf (which are very popular right now). The further travesity is that these “accents” are not easily removeable. They’re attached and it makes them near impossible to remove.
Designers – watch Project Runway – Tim Gunn would never approve of such attachments in such an unflattering place.
